Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
Without knowing the actual measurements I estimated the size of the case and made a drawing for 3-D print.
As soon as the actual size is known, I will revise the drawing. Cheers

Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
Hermes brought the Ariel just a few minutes ago, thank you again Mike
I connected it up and 50 years on, it still works, not perfectly, but it works!
I learned something new too.
As an example, the RCS Inter-6 is not a bi-simul set, which means you couldn't operate rudder AND elevator at the same time - the toggles switch different tone-determining resistors into a common tone-generator. This was the norm for a sport radio, and obviously this means you cant do rudder/elevator spins, correct for skew halfway round a loop, or steer whilst inverted!
Only the posh Reed sets were bi-simultaneous with two tone generators, where any of the left-hand toggles could be operated at the same time as any on the right.
Well, as you can hear on the video, the Ariel is bi-simul. I never realised that at the time.
The unmodulated carrier is very noisy however, it wouldnt be flyable as it is.
For Frank, the dimensions are 180mm x118mm and 60mm deep.
The rear has a pattern of raised things like dimples but outwards, that I dont know the word for - so I'm going to call then undimples
They project a couple of mm. The rounded corners are about 10mm radius.
Here's the brass band joining the two halves, this is laid flat in the bench supported by the undimples
Cheers & thanks again Mike

Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
Congratulations for a great radio set Phil.
Looks good and sounds good.
Phil, when you have the time, could you please give me the size of the Ariel 6 transmitter that I can dimension my replica accordingly.
But no rush, I have plenty of projects underway.
Have fun with your new set and my deepest respect to Mike.
Cheers

Hi Phil
I'm pleased it arrived safely and you're happy with it. When I tested it, I got nothing and I can't believe it got fixed by Hermes in the post, I wonder what I did wrong
Look forward to seeing you fly with it, hopefully later this year.
Cheers Mike

Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
Thanks Phil, got it.
The drawing is resized and available in the 3-D print section.
However I do not have a printed example for the time.

Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
The Ariel 6 channel reeds Tx with the 3D-printed case is finished.
I made two versions, one with the NRF24 HF unit and the other with the new Lemon DSMX module.
Both work great. They are basic 6-channel reeds sets, no gimmics beside servo-reverse and low voltage alert.
Test flights are already finished using my old Graupner Kadett. No problems at all. Cheers

That’s a lovely construction Frank , can you divulge your secret of making such splendid finish on the 3D printed case ?

Re: Ariel 6-Channel Reed Set
The finish is by far not perfect. It´s just two layers of sanding primer and three layers of grey spray paint sandet in between.
The decal is printed on self-adhesive transparent vinyl. That´s it.
