Nearly finished - my sons room has had planes on the ceiling in the past but since moving out to Uni/Art School it’s now also my man cave No2
Influenced no doubt by those awe inspiring memories as a boy staring at the ceiling full of aeroplanes in Galaxy models in Norwich in I think Grant st? On the top shelf Skyleaders, MRC. Flight link and futaba - all I could do was drool

My ceiling hanging method. Vine eyes securely fixed into the ceiling with 4mm bungee cord and plastic hooks - the hook has a guard which I cut off one of the hooks - this one remains attached to the vine eye. The other I cut the guard off so it’s any easy matter to unhook and lift down your plane. Works a treat - the wings fit around each other and I can accommodate a lot of planes all out of harms way but enjoy looking at them

Nice man cave, Galaxy Models first shop was in Waddington St, great memories of spending afternoons chatting to Mike Tomalin.
They were only there about 18 months before they moved to what is now Pegasus Models emporium.
The Ipswich shop was a similar place, loads of stock and a friendly atmosphere, heady times for a modeller, where are they all now?

Galaxy models Ipswich moved from their long time home in the corner shop to larger premises a few streets away. Unfortunately events (cheap elec flight, heavy discounting from other stores and HK which set up a warehouse just outside Ipswich) caused their financial demise. Although, I don't think the copyright battle they lost with Bowmans over the Escort trainer helped! I lived in Colchester and worked at BT Martlesham Heath so I visited them a lot from the mid 70's till their end, although from '84 I lived in Ipswich and they were within walking distance. Spent many a happy Christmas eve in the shop, much to my first wife's annoyance, as I eventually got home quite late. Got to know Garry Weston quite well as we both flew PPL. He had a share in a Jodel and I had a share in an ARV Super 2. Happy memories, not least the one of the early days of the Micro Mold Lark helicopter development/modifications and them test flying it on the pavement outside the corner shop.
Anyone remember the brief life of Saturn Models of Colchester?

Wow I’m inspired to have sparked of this chat. Yes I remember Mike Tomalin He really liked the sound of his own voice and used the pace up and down with his arms behind his back behind the counter spouting forth all the dos and don’ts of radio control. He was a really good chap and helped no end of Modellers . Ha ha I love the Reftec Comments. As I recall the one I have now is in fact the second one as the first one didn’t work! I remember distinctly Mike Tomalin tried his hardest to put me off it. Instead recommending a Sanwa 35 meg AM outfit. I wish I had listened but to be truthful as I knew a bit about radio I could see that a UHF set should be a thorough answer to the CB threat. I loved the short aerial and I could see how that would be a real advantage flying gliders off bungees. I remember bombing home on my bike with the reftec held across the handlebars in its yellow box and some idiot schoolboy from An enemy camp walked across the road in front of me without looking. I swerved and fell off and my prized Reftec Skidded across the road. Amazingly this one did work and still does. But I never ever flew it and still haven’t to this day. I did try once with a secondhand Orange and black Impala chucked off Muckleborough hill near Cromer and Sheringham. I had a 50ms window to learn to fly before hit the gorse bush and broke . Suffice to say that wasn’t the moment that I learnt to fly! So here I am this Evening soldering together a Mac Gregor single channel receiver harness.

I would love to find out who it was that coined the derogatory phrase "Man Cave" and give them a swift kick in the arse. I was told it was a woman, but whatever. What ever happened to the terms garage, shop, den, library, office, parlor, or spare bedroom that we all used to refer to out hobby areas?

So what's wrong with Man cave? This was carved by a friend and I have to admit that I rather like it!

In my previous house the shed had a similar sign that said "Heaven"

My 'bouwhok' (building den) door,
Signs on the door are a poster from a F2B (=CL) contest (who put on that silly RC big scale extra? ) I attended long, long ago and a roadsign from the seventies to the Dutch Combat International in Rotterdam.
About the time when either John Hammersley or Richard Evans came up with the first pressure fed glow engines (ST G20/15 ?) replacing the trusty Oliver Tigre.
With everyone following their example, the noise went up to another level, effectively ending those contests being held at local sports facilities.
