I am still no wiser if I will be able to operate the el-cheapo receivers I have earmarked, with my XJT-Lite module. I guess it is a matter of suck it and see......

If your module supports D8, it should work any currently available D8 receiver.
It appears the V1 receivers were quickly withdrawn and/or updated.
Having said that, you can never be absolutely certain with cheap clones...
