Hello Edward, maybe I can pop into this topic. I built a Tomboy some 10 years ago, intended for R/C from the beginning. She is a sweet little flyer.
I did power mine a bit more relaxed than Phil I think, I am using a Turnigy 2205/34 1500 KV with a 7 x 4.5 APC prop. As the motor is quite light, I installed the motor mount about 18 mm ahead of the original firewall, leaving a small slot ahead of the windshield just big enough to slip in a 2s 500mAh battery in. The motor is installed without any side trust, and only some 2 degrees down related to the mounting face of the stabilizer. The ESC is in the main compartment together with the receiver.
Necessary or not, I did strengthen the fuselage a bit by fitting diagonals in all bays of the sides. The first bay aft of the firewall is planked completely with 1.5 mm balsa.
I believe the chord of the stabilizer is a bit larger than the original, 112 mm with the last 20 mm hinged as elevators.
Happy building & flying, cheers,
Max.
