Well I got the centre section carbon outer tube fixed in place. Hot glue then fibreglass tape over the top to keep it tidy. I just cut the carbon tube with a zona saw. Made v little mess and just vacuumed it up.
Looks good. I've slid the rod through the centre section and dry fitted the tubes in the wings and pushed the lot into place, and the whole assembly seems to line up nicely. Will glue it all up tomorrow then I need to sort the servo linkages and run the servo wires to the cockpit.

Thats what I did, slid the inner through the three outers with the two plastic washers and dropped the whole caboosh onto hot glue in the slots (quickly!) in the chopped-but-reassembled wing pieces. This was the point where I discovered that if you smooth it with a wet finger like bathroom sealant, hot glue is hot

In the cockpit I'd suggest removing the absolute minimum of material, just enough to get your gear in - and to melt it away rather than cut.
You see some build photos on the FB group where they've hollowed it right out and left just a 1/4" wall, usually followed by a photo of a pile of confetti

Yes, I also did the whole 'A wet finger and this will smooth just like silicone' bit.
Boy does it hurt.

Point taken about the cockpit. I'm using my trusty dirt cheap Flysky FSI6 transmitter with its little lightweight receiver and two 'brand x' 9g servos.
One of the best purchases I ever made that transmitter.

If this little experiment goes well I have two mk2's under the bench. I will do one rudder and elevator with a little brushless motor on the nose next.

Look at me! a balsa chewing, banana oil sniffing free-flighter who piddles D1000, playing with foam and carbon fibre!

Whatever next.

What's a good idea for rx battery in a LIDL glider? I'm running a Flysky 6 ch rx, and two SG90 cheapie servos. I was going to try a 1S lipo ? Anyone else tried this? Trying to keep weight down.

I used a one-cell Lithium in my twisty-wing Lidl. See the very last few seconds of this video, where I take the canopy off.



It's an AA-size rechargeable, but a Lithium cell. I think they're named 14500. That was a cheap Chinese one, and I think it's a fake as it's even lighter than a 'real' 14500. It only has a capacity of about 250mAh, whereas a 'real' 14500 is normally closer to 1000 mAh. I suspect it's a tiny cell, inside an empty-ish case. Anyway, it has plenty of capacity for that model.

That video's now five years old. Probably I should fit a fresh cell, before I fly it again. I'll probably put in one from a discarded vape this time.

Nearly all my gliders use a single cell Most modern receivers are fine on a single cell, the only ones I'd be wary of is the older Spekky receivers which had a poor (high dropout) regulator and would brown-out where others continue working fine. Its a lower pack voltage than a 4-cell NiMh but it has such a low ESR that this voltage is rock solid with varying servo loads

Of my various lidls, the lidl-wing has an 18650, the twisty a 400mAh lipo cell, the rudder-elevator one has a big 1000mAh 1S mounted in the canopy. The powered lidl of course use the speed controllers 5v BEC. My two SAS Wildthings and two Veron Impalas each have an 18650 cell. The Elf DLG uses a tiny 150mAh cell and the Instigator a single 350mAh lipo cell

Phil, how did you hinge the elevator and rudder on your powered Mk2?

My next conversion will be a flat field calm-ish day job.
