Re: Throttle only?

One of my first F/F designs I flew throttle only. I didn't have a FF timer (for brushless ESC) and so I fitted a receiver and it worked rather better than I thought! It turns left under power, right on the glide and straightish under a little power. Was nice having a F/F aerie that I didn't have to fetch...

Even though I couldn't be there I enjoyed getting involved in the Pulstar build.

Here's a couple more suggestions:

1) Build any model from the year you were born - this could include free flight converted to RC

2) Guillows do quite a good range of inexpensive rubber powered models - choose any from their range to build and convert to electric and rc.

Can't go wrong with the Vic Smeed theme, as previously suggested. Also like the idea of single channel scale, as a number of designs were published in US mags in the 50's and 60's. Those of us on the wrong side of the pond and/or otherwise unable to attend the show can still join in on building the models. :)

Another possible?

Any design by Ray Malmstrom converted to S/C. His designs cover free flight, control line and rubber powered models and are"individualistic" enough (I think) to appeal to many Mode-Zero's inmates.

FWIW, I like this idea - even narrowing it further to anything from the 'Eagle Book of Model Aircraft' LOL :-)

There's even a Gee-Bee C/L (S/C?) racer conversion for Ron in there too

I thing the Vic Smeed thing has been done too often, time for something 'odd' methinks ;)

The Eagle Book of Hobbies was the reason I got into aeromodelling.

How about a full size version Depron of this. https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=4166
And this was always a favourite of mine https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=1474

This looks like the inspiration for Homer Sinpson that visited Ponty.

Popped out for an ice cream this morning - went 26 miles on my motorcycle to Bude for it

Anyway another possible theme popped into my head on route - pylon racers. Last year you raced Bluderbirds but what about building proper single channel pylon racers. There seems to be a plentiful choice of styles that will hopefully satisfy different tastes. Maybe limit wingspan (larger plans could be reduced to this limit). Also set a limit for power used.
