Junior 60 build

Well Stuart Mackay has just given me the prod to post this build on Mode Zero. Having just completed and maidened my Super 60 it’s now time for the Junior 60. And all this in my sixties and 64 on the 16th November- gulp 64 …

This one I bought part built just like the super
The wings are well built but are currently suffering from 9mm of wash IN on each wing . I cannot think it was built that way but it’s been built a while and never covered . So I think I will soak it in the bath and set it up on some formers to induce 6mm of wash OUT on each tip. This eve saw the shaping of the nose and the painting of the cabin frames

I love Junior 60s, so am looking forward to your build. Because of the short nose, you usually have to add a ton of lead to get the c.g. right - but they carry it, no problem. Try to keep the tail end as light as you reasonably can, and install the gear well forward. This applies to both battery powered and i.c. power (unless you fit a much bigger engine than it needs).

You could just leave the wing as is & putter around inverted, antipodean style

I’m not sure I have that level of pilot skill :
This eve sees the commencement of covering . I’m going for antique Solartex with red painted on accents in the traditional style .

I have put balsaloc on the edges of the fuz but jumping the gun really as I have not finished the tail feathers
They need a bit of remaking in part.

This time I’m going to cover the bottom first so the sides can lap downward so I don’t have seam edges pointing upward on the nose

As Solartex is SO stupid money nowadays I have set out my cutting diagram in AutoCad so I don’t waste any

Fuz covering commences

I always have a love hate relationship with covering . I can get very impatient and end up with burnt fingers and imperfections which drive me mad! But this evening I’ve slowed myself down by watching the excellent Brian Cox and the universe program from the BBC. I now have the horizontal stabiliser to cover before bed. The weekend should see the wings covered and final assembly

Ok I have everything covered now. The rudder and the elevators are hinged and attached. The skeg is been attached to the fuselage. And now comes the arty bit! I do love this bit and playing around with the shapes to get the look right. Now I could do this in auto CAD. But you just can’t beat a pencil a bit of cardboard and a pair of scissors to play around with shapes. As with the black magic. I am painting on the trim.It takes a while because I’m using water-based paint that requires several coats to obliterate. I intend to switch to a small roller soon and then eliminate all the brushmarks. Now the wing is going to take some effort to eliminate the wash IN and rectify with wash OUT.
I’m using a wallpaper steamer to soften the joints. It seems to be working and I have made a Jig To set the wash out correctly. I’m having to do one wing at a time as I have to weight it down to a flat surface.

Ha ha Hi Wayne . I have in fact gone a little engine mad and acquired some more along with radio gear .
I know have

Lovely Thunder Tiger4S in the Super 60 only just run in
Glorious laser 80 4S from Late 90’s in perfect as new condition ( bench run only)
Saito 50 odd 4S ( run in only)

Ed Hawk diesel I sold for a tidy profit
Along with an Engel diesel

Latest haul is a Cox baby bee ( bench run only) will sell
Enya ss40 2S ( bench run only) - will keep this one back for a Moonglow or similar
AM diesel a bit bashed but ok will sell also
