EK-Logictrol LRB 3 channel

Quick report on a 3 channel transmitter conversion using one of Phil's 4 channel Digispark (aileron pot was wired to rudder and aileron inputs to avoid any loose signals floating around). It will be used with one of Tobe's Rand Galloping Ghost Replicas.
Used a lemon DIY module for the 2.4GHz...what else?!? I may sound a bit biased methinks!

The encoder and Lemon module mounted neatly on the top face of the Tx and is powered by a Poover (other brands are available) 9V rechargeable Lithium PP9 equivalent.
Hope you like?

Very neat! The mechanical bits look in excellent condition.

Nice job
Is the red antenna base custom made or part of the original (modified?)? My LRB is an earlier model and the antenna base is much taller and the antenna hole a smaller diameter.

Hi Stuart:
Nice!
Interesting - was not aware of the LIthium PP9 equivalents. Looking on Amazon, I see ones rated for 600mAh which should be plenty of capacity for the short periods of time I use my classic systems, but have you run into any issues with
- lower voltage (looks like these batteries may only supply ~8.2V rather than 9V?)
- these little cells not supplying enough current to run the encoder and 2.4Ghz RF deck?

I use EBLs in many of my conversions

Ah, cool - thanks for the links on the prior discussion!
The main thing I was wondering about was the voltage - so given they're essentially just 2S Lipos, I'm assuming the supplied voltage actually drops down into the lower 7V range as the battery depletes - despite the form factor, it's not really a 9V battery. I can see now that they would be fine for the Arduino encoder conversions, but I had been hoping they might be a nice solution for placing inside other 2.4Ghz retro conversions where I keep the original encoder but it's a bit more work to open up the box (e.g. old Futuba Gold boxes). I'll have to experiment on a case by case basis...

Thats right Bill - the PP3s are very handy but they are just a 2S lipo so not really 9v.
For replacing the common 8-cell tx pack I'd suggest a 3S LiFePo4 as the voltage is almost identical

I bought a couple from HobbyKing when they were on offer, sold as 'transmitter batteries'
they have a huge capacity and last months!

Another thumbs up for the HobbyKing LiFe cells as 8-cell NiMh replacements. Been using them for years now. Its a shame that none of the other suppliers - who do supply 2-cell LiFe packs for receivers and airborne use - don't do competing 3S packs.
Not that I believe the HobbyKing ones are in any way deficient, but it would be nice to have a physically smaller option for smaller transmitters.

just specify that you want a red instead of black antenna mount at check out.
