Mode Zero

Just thought I'd post some details of my latest conversion. A Multiplex Commander now fitted with one of Mike Kitchen's GTA encoders and a Lemon 2.4GHz RF module. Pretty much everything was removed from the case apart from the sticks, sliders and some of the switches. The original analogue encoder and mixing units were removed but care was taken to preserve the control panel and its controls at the bottom of the Tx.
The metal was cut away to allow space for the GTA encoder and a piece of aluminium channel was installed, with suitable cutout for the screen and holes for the buttons. The channel was then supported on 4 bolts to allow fine adjustment relative to the metal plate below and allow for the fitting of the fake mixer control panel. The plastic elements behind this were cut away to allow fabrication of one continuous cover with everything superglued together to make it all look original, but just providing a cosmetic cover plate for the screen behind.
Lemon RF module was added and 6S NiMH battery installed as 2 x 3S packs to fit into the space available. Various switches, buttons and LEDs added to provide the necessary controls were added in the top panel.
I have flown with the Tx several times now and the Tx has behaved faultlessly so far.
Just need to put my soldering iron away now and get flying.

What a fantastic conversion, I love it !!

It's very creative how you have made a frame for the encoder to sit in the front and still be able to fit the original cover, I have not seen any other similar conversions, I'm certain somebody else will want to copy the idea (me included). There are a lot of fans of the old Multiplex transmitters and you now have a unique one.

You'll probably get addicted to converting transmitters, once you have done a few it's very hard to stop, what will your next project be?

Excellent conversion. Especially like how you've retained the original panel where the mixing options are to hide the encoder display.

A really nice conversion and Mike.... Yes, I have a no-longer functional CM-Rex that I was eyeing up just the other day with just such a conversion in mind..... Please put me down for another GTA....... 'No rush, as it is unlikely to happen before next Winter
