Ok we have a couple of useful replies from the VRRRF lads,
Graham (Station-X) has sent this link to the patent which includes a schematic: ]https://worldwide.espacenet.com/publica ... 4120A&KC=A
and
another Graham (G3VZT) says of my 'guess' above:

Its nothing more than a guess...
That's my guess too. I would call it a one-valve squegging oscillator. Very effective with a simple super-regen receiver.

Has anybody else got a Triang with a "cover" over the white push switch?

The cover is only on the MK1 sets, somehow I've accumulated 2x MK1, 2x MK2 (all boxed, two with aerials) and the matching cargo ship! I've also got the instructions for the transmitter and ship somewhere, I took them out of the box to scan them and have managed to misplace them, I'll scan and post once they turn up.

Looks like this has started something! I look forward to seeing your instructions if you can publish them.

I'd also be interested in knowing the length of the original aerial. This will be useful when it's time to push 90v up it...

Having read the patent application that Phil_G so kindly obtained, we see that his proposal was correct, and that it is a mark/space pulse transmitter. But, oddly, intended for engine speed - forward/stop/reverse. No mention of altering rudder position.

A window into 1950s thinking about what constituted effective control...

Have you seen this? Somebody got their ship "up-and-running" back in 2012 and had it published in the Model Boat magazine. I have not managed to track down a copy of the magazine, does anybody have a copy of it?

Triang did an aircraft receiver for this transmitter as well - I suppose it would be too much to hope that one of those has survived...?

The aerial is made from eight sections of alloy tube, 277mm long and 8mm diameter. The ends are flared at one end and crimped the other to slot together by around 25mm. So the overall length is around 2040mm including the stub on the Tx

I still can't find my original instructions, but there is a Triang Radio Master and Cargo Ship listed on ebay and the seller kindly took a photo of each page of the instructions, which I've copied and put into a pdf

https://vintagetx.co.uk/download/Triang ... ctions.pdf

and the ebay Triang

This should probably be posted in either the "Boats" or "Single Channel" section, but it is a natural continuation of this thread. I was scanning through a job-lot of magazines I'd bought and found the following article, fascinating!
